Seven family child care home providers benefit from computer drawing

Veronica Jones, the top winner, takes home a personal computer that she says will be placed in her classroom to enhance learning for the five children she educates in her five-star family child care home, Visions Childcare Center.
In March, Durhams Partnership for Children sent letters to four and five-star family child care homes to encourage them to enter into a drawing to win refurbished computers.
Seven lucky winners won the used computers. Veronica Jones from Visions Childcare Center; Yiaohong Bi from Happy Star Daycare; Linda McDougald from Raven's Wonderland; Sue Carruthers from Sue's Home Daycare; Shabaka Brannon from Brannon's Home Daycare; Lottie Hayes from Lottie's Love N' Care and Joyce Johnson from Teddy Bear Lane were the seven winners out of 28 entries.
The giveaway was an effort to put decommissioned assets back into the community to support early care and education. Since family childcare home providers often wear the hat as business owner, the Partnership staff thought making the computers available to them would not only support their work with children, but also help them with business functions of their jobs.
